DOCaeyc 2014 NOMINATIONS INFORMATION AND
APPLICATION FOR NOMINATION TO THE DOCaeyc BOARD OF DIRECTORS

Dear Members of Durham, Orange and Chatham AEYC,
DOCaeyc is seeking nominees for our 2014 elections for the DOCaeyc Board of Directors. Promoting strong leadership is one of the primary ways DOCaeyc works to achieve our mission “to be the voice of professionals working with or on behalf of young children birth through age eight.” DOCaeyc strives to be a “high performing, inclusive organization” and therefore we value representation on our Board that reflects our diverse membership.
DOCaeyc needs vibrant leaders to guide the work of YOUR association. The DOCaeyc Board of Directors sets the priorities and direction of our organization’s strategic plan, oversees and manages fiscal resources, and supports the local affiliates in carrying out the work of DOCaeyc. If you or someone you know possesses strong leadership potential, including skills and knowledge of fiscal and governance oversight and a willingness to serve, please consider submitting a Nomination Application form via email or fax by 5:00 pm on May 22, 2014.
This year, 3 seats are open for nomination. Nominees must hold current membership and match the requirements as listed below, including must live or work in the West Central Region counties of Durham, Orange or Chatham.
Serving on the Executive Committee: Each seat is a two-year term and elected on a rotational basis. Due to the delay in the election process for this year, the term of office will end January 2016. Elected officers will have the option to run a second consecutive 2-year term in 2016.
• President: Presides at all meetings of the DOCaeyc board, executive committee and other meetings as required. Ex-officio members of all committees of the organization. Oversees implementation of policies and ensures that appropriate administrative systems are established and maintained. Minimum 1 year experience in a leadership capacity presiding as president or chair of a board, chairing a committee or serving on a board or committee, etc.
• VP of Public Policy & Awareness: Develops advocacy and public policy initiatives for DOCaeyc. Minimum of 1 year experience serving on a board or working in public policy. Serves as a members at large.
• Secretary: Disseminates written agendas and information before meetings, prepares and provides written minutes, maintains records of the DOCaeyc board, and is familiar with legal documents.
The DOCaeyc Nominations Committee will review applications, interview candidates by phone and present a slate of nominees to the DOCaeyc Board of Directors for approval. During the election, DOCaeyc members will cast their votes by mail or email. Newly-elected Board members will be inducted into office on June 30th and begin their Board service on July 1, 2014 this year. After these elections, newly elected board members will take office every two years on February 1.
