Krista Turner

Krista served on the NCaeyc Board of Directors from 2008–2013 as a representative from the Southeast Region and re-joined in the Fall of 2015. She currently serves as the Treasurer on the NCaeyc Board of Directors and is part of the Public Policy and Executive Committees. Previously, she participated in the Standards and Practices Committee and enjoyed working with enthusiastic early childhood professionals to help coordinate the Annual Conference each year.

Krista is the Director of Program and Evaluation for Smart Start of New Hanover County where she serves as a liaison for funded partners, developing contracts and ensuring compliance with grant requirements. Previous to this, she served as the Smart Start Education Services Manager for 16 years. These positions, along with time spent as a child care center teacher and an early childhood consultant, have contributed to very rich experiences for her and a firm understanding of the child care system in our community and our state.

She enjoys the work that she does each day supporting early childhood professionals, striving and advocating for quality experiences for young children, and educating families about the importance of the First 2000 Days in a child’s life. She is particularly interested in advocating for higher wages for early childhood professionals along with ensuring that all families have access to quality experiences for their children.

Krista enjoys living close to the coast in Wilmington and has two smart and kind sons: Trey (21 years old) and Brice (18 years old).
