It’s Official! Governor Proclaims Week of the Young Child and Month of the Young Child in North Carolina

It’s Official! Governor McCrory has proclaimed April 2015 as the Month of the Young Child, and April 12 – 18, 2015 as the Week of the Young Child in North Carolina.

We appreciate the Governor’s support as we celebrate and advocate for young children, their families, and early childhood professionals. This is a wonderful time to raise awareness of children’s issues and to thank and recognize the close to 40,000 early educators in our state that care for and educate our youngest children.

Today we know more than ever before about the importance of children’s earliest years in shaping their learning and development. Yet, never before have the needs of young children and their families been more pressing.

The Week of the Young Child™ is a time to recognize that children’s opportunities are our responsibilities, and to recommit ourselves to ensuring that each and every child experiences the type of early environment—at home, at child care, at school, and in the community—that will promote their early learning.

We hope you will all join us in making Month and Week of the Young Child 2015 a visible, vibrant time in our communities!
